Aston Villa owner delivers passionate message to midfielder

Dr Tony Xia has taken to Twitter to congratulate Conor Hourihane on his international debut, before challenging the 26-year old to make his “career greater” at Aston Villa.

Hourihane featured for the Republic of Ireland last night in their defeat to Iceland, in what was his senior international debut, a just reward to a fine season in the Sky Bet Championship.

The Irish midfielder described his debut as a “dream come true,” and Xia was one of many to respond, saying: “Congrats, Conor, hope we can see more of ur dreams come true, i.e. up the Villa to where it was and make your professional career greater.”

Villa have struggled in the Championship this season. Roberto Di Matteo was sacked back in October following a poor start, and replaced by Steve Bruce, whose results have been inconsistent.

Bruce’s side are currently 12th in the Championship table, and despite a run of fantastic form, which has seen Villa win five of their last six fixtures, they are unlikely to make the Play-Offs in May.

Villa will be looking to continue their recent momentum this weekend when they welcome Norwich City to Villa Park.
