Aston Villa owner Dr Tony Xia has played down links with West Ham United winger Robert Snodgrass.

Dr Tony Xia took to Twitter to confirm that Aston Villa's interest in Robert Snodgrass was merely a rumour.

A recent report by The Daily Mail suggested that Robert Snodgrass was a transfer target for Aston Villa before the transfer deadline.

Aston Villa, who are bound by financial restrictions, were reportedly exploring the possibility of a loan deal with an option to buy included with West Ham United willing to listen to offers.

Robert Snodgrass only joined the Hammers in the January transfer window after leaving Hull City.

However, he has failed to settle in East London, managing just fifteen appearances of which eight were from the bench.

The Scotland international has previously impressed in the Premier League and the Championship for the likes of Hull, Norwich and Leeds but could be flogged by West Ham this summer.

With the arrivals of Sead Haksabanovic and Marko Arnautovic at the London Stadium, the 29-year-old's future looks uncertain.

West Ham are ready to listen to offers from other clubs ahead of the end of the window but it doesn't look like he will be off to Aston Villa.

The Championship side's interest has been cooled by owner Dr Tony Xia.

The Verdict

Robert Snodgrass would undoubtedly add that bit of magic that Aston Villa need to bridge the midfield and attack.

With his service to Jonathan Kodjia, Aston Villa could score loads of goals.

However, he would be on very high wages and Dr Tony Xia is probably wise to not pursue this move given the financial troubles at Villa.
