Aston Villa misfit Ross McCormack has joined Scottish side Motherwell on a deal until the end of the season.

Confirmed by BT Sport, the Scot makes his third move away from Villa Park to all but bring an end to what has been a miserable spell in the Midlands for the former Leeds and Fulham striker.

McCormack has failed to settle at Villa ever since making a big money move to the club a few seasons back, and fell out with then manager Steve Bruce, leading to spells over in Melbourne before a brief spell with Nottingham Forest too.

However, the Scottish international has now made his move back to his homeland, rejoining Motherwell some 11 years after making his mark with the club before moving to the English game.

McCormack said he was 'desperate' to get back on the pitch following the move, and he will be hoping to find some form and fitness after admitting his time at Villa Park had been 'frustrating'.

Motherwell will be hoping for the striker to hit form and fire in the goals after their struggles this term, while Villa manager Dean Smith will no doubt be pleased to move a player on who is on big wages and simply taking up room at the club in terms of his squad.

The Verdict

McCormack was almost a forgotten man at Villa Park, and a switch back to Scotland could make sense for all involved.

It will be nice to see McCormack hit some form and get back to what he does best, while Villa will be glad to see the back of him too.

All involved will be hoping this materialises in a permanent move.
