Aston Villa midfielder Birkir Bjarnason is edging closer to a move to the Serie A, according to reports via the Birmingham Mail

The Villains signed the Icelandic international back in the January transfer window of 2017, but ever since joining the club he's struggled to force a permanent place in the side with 7 starts to his name.

Indeed, the 29-year-old has scored twice this season, once in both the EFL Cup and their recent tie with automatic promotion chasers Bristol City.

But in a side that already has Albert Adomah, Robert Snodgrass and Andre Green fighting for the same position, it's seen the rise in form of Adomah and Snodgrass keep him out of the side.

Therefore, this has caused for a possible move to Italy, a place that his agent is currently believed to be in, in regards to talks with possible destinations.

With Serie A outfit S.P.A.L taking an interest in the Icelandic midfielder.

Indeed, for a team that have spent a big amount of money on the signings of numerous players in previous windows gone by, the sale of the out of favour midfielder could provide some much needed funds for Bruce to fulfill his own transfer goals.

The verdict

Should look to cash in.

With a promotion push in the offering, Steve Bruce should do everything he can to give his side the best possible chance by bolstering his squad.

In a side that currently holds no place for the midfielder, there really is no other option other than an exit from the club.
