Aston Villa are set to open talks with AFC Bournemouth over the possibility of signing defender, Tyrone Mings permanently according to the Birmingham Mail.

Mings spent the second-half of last season on loan with Dean Smith's side, and he's seemingly made a good impression on the Aton Villa boss.

It's no coincidence that Villa's remarkable run of form since the turn of the year came after Mings signed on loan for the Villans on January's Deadline Day.

He went on to make 15 league appearances, and formed an impressive partnership in the centre of the Villa defence with Manchester United loanee, Axel Tuanzebe.

Mings played a starring role for Villa throughout the season, and without him, you have to feel as though they wouldn't have won promotion back into the Premier League.

Villa narrowly edged past Derby County in the Play-Off Final at Wembley, as they made a timely return back into the top-flight.

Dean Smith is evidently trying to get his transfer business done at the earliest of opportunities, and he sees Mings as one of his top targets ahead of the summer.

The report also claims that a fee in the region of £12m is being discussed between Villa and Bournemouth over a potential deal for the versatile defender.

An interesting summer awaits Villa supporters, as their side looks to make new signings to adjust to life back in the Premier League.

The Verdict:

What a signing this would be.

Mings has already shown that he is a class above, and he is certainly a player with a point to prove in the Premier League after being frozen out by AFC Bournemouth.

He would cost a fair bit, but it's definitely worth it for Dean Smith's side.
