This morning Leeds United have been linked with a move for Barnsley’s Andy Yiadom, with the full-back becoming a free agent at the end of the current season.

Paul Heckingbottom is keen on a reunion with the Barnsley defender, but there is expected to be firm interest in the 26-year-old, who has come close to a Premier League move during the last two transfer windows.

Here at FLW, one team we believe need to be in the hunt to sign Yiadom in the summer is Aston Villa, who look almost certain to be losing their most consistent full-back – Alan Hutton.

Hutton has been immense for Villa this season at both right-back and left-back, however, he could well be on the move in the summer, with his deal up and no extension on the table.

Yiadom, like Hutton, can cover on both the right and left, and whilst he doesn’t have the same level of experience as the Scot, he does have age on his side and his best ahead of him.

The Barnsley full-back has been at Oakwell for almost two years, making the transition to the Championship with ease, which attracted the attention of both Huddersfield Town and Swansea City in the past.

From Villa’s point of view, Yiadom could be a player they take into the Premier League, should they gain promotion, whilst he could also aid another promotion push should Bruce’s side fall short.

Of course, it could be an almighty scrabble to sign Yiadom in the summer, but Villa must be in that group of clubs, as the 26-year-old could be the ideal replacement for Hutton.
