With new manager Dean Smith enjoying his first full week at Aston Villa, his former club Brentford are bracing themselves should Smith return with a view to purchasing any of his former Griffin Park stars as reported in the Birmingham Mail.

Bees sporting director Phil Giles has indicated that the club would find it difficult to reject a substantial bid for one of their stars but stated there were no guarantees Smith, 47, would be reunited with any of his former charges.

But which Brentford stars should Smith be considering for Villa?

We discuss.....

Jacob Potter

Top of Smith’s list has to be Neal Maupay.

He’s been in excellent form already this season as the league’s top goalscorer so Villa will want to add firepower to an already impressive front line.

Romaine Sawyers is another one that I would be looking at if I was Smith, as he is crucial to the Brentford side this season.

Jay Taylor

Chris Mepham is one - Villa need defenders and he has been vital for the Bees in recent times.

Ollie Watkins, Neal Maupay are two attacking players with a phenomenal understanding and would be key for Aston Villa should they move.

And Sergi Canos, the man who makes them tick could well be on his way too.

There is a lot for Smith to consider and who he looks to sign but there is a quartet there that would make Villa better in one window.

George Dagless

Neal Maupay immediately springs to mind.

He's been a star and scored lots of goals but Villa do have attacking players that can come good.

More than Maupay, I'd say that Chris Mepham is worth a look though given Villa's defensive struggles.

Gary Hutchinson

I’d like to see Ollie Watkins given a chance, he’s a great little player.

There’s Ezri Konsa too; Villa need defenders.

The obvious choice is Maupay, but how many more Championship forwards do Villa have to sign for big money before they realise they’re doing something wrong with them?

Hogan, McCormack and Kodjia all promised much and have faded badly.
