It has been a difficult start to the 2017/18 Sky Bet Championship season for Aston Villa, with Steve Bruce’s side sat in the relegation zone after three fixtures, with just a single point.

Bruce has highlighted Villa’s lack of goalscoring threat as a problem, stating that he wants to sign another striker, due to Jonathan Kodjia’s continued absence.

Here at FLW, one player we believe Villa should be looking to sign between now and the end of the summer is Sam Gallagher, who could be set for another loan move away from Southampton.

It is well known that Villa are battling against Financial Fair Play punishment, so any potential big-money move for a striker is unlikely, which is why we believe a loan move for Gallagher would make sense.

The 21-year-old is hungry and looking for first-team action, which he isn’t likely to find at Southampton.

Villa will have to battle Wolverhampton Wanderers, who are also interested in signing Gallagher, but Bruce should fight to get the striker to Villa Park, as he could provide the spark that Villa badly need.

Last season, Gallagher spent time on-loan with Blackburn Rovers in the Championship, scoring 11 goals in 43 league appearances, and despite Rovers’ relegation, the striker still managed to impress.

Scott Hogan and Gabby Agbonlahor are struggling to provide Villa with any real threat in Kodjia’s absence, and even when the Ivorian returns, Bruce’s side cannot be too reliant on him, which is why they are looking for reinforcements.

A loan move for Gallagher, which wouldn’t cost too much, would be perfect for Villa – who need a signing that will bring a fearless approach to Villa Park and help them get their season up and running.
