According to the Scottish Sun, Ross McCormack is in talks with Motherwell over a potential loan deal in the January window.

The striker is currently out on loan in Australia from Aston Villa but it seems as though he is willing to bring that to an end to link up with his former club.

Certainly, it would seem a potential coup for the Scottish outfit with the quality that McCormack can bring when he is on form.

With that in mind, then, Aston Villa might be eager to see this deal happen in the window when it opens later this week with his future at Villa Park far from simple.

That said, then, here at Football League World we're taking a closer look at three reasons why the West Midlands side need to get this deal sorted as soon as possible when the window opens up for business later this week...

Villa look nicely settled squad wise at the moment so there is no need to try and upset the apple cart.

McCormack staying at Villa does no-one any favours so if another loan deal can be sorted than so be it.

Clearly, this would open the door for a potential permanent move in the future.

McCormack's wages are big but if he enjoys his time back at Fir Park on loan he might be open to taking a pay cut to get a permanent deal.

Look at Villa's squad, they simply do not need the forward.

Attack-wise they have a glut of options and so it makes little sense to have McCormack knocking around as well.

A move away makes sense for all involved.
