Aston Villa youngster Jacob Ramsey has agreed a new deal with the club ahead of a loan move to League One side Doncaster Rovers on Friday.

The 18-year-old is highly-regarded at Villa Park and Dean Smith has been keen to tie him down to a new contract, despite only signing his first professional contract last month.

However, given his performances this season, the Villans were eager to get a new-and-improved deal on the table to keep him at the club long-term.

Having played 12 games in the Premier League 2 Division 2, Ramsey has scored an impressive six goals and registered six assists, but is yet to get a regular taste of senior football in his career, with only two appearances for Villa’s first-team in the past two seasons.

Football Insider are now reporting that Villa are set to hand Ramsey a new deal and loan him out to League One side Doncaster Rovers for the remainder of the season.

Doncaster have been keen to replace the goals that they lost in the summer when John Marquis departed for Portsmouth and Mallik Wilks’ loan from Leeds United ended, and they have already moved to secure a deal for Shrewsbury striker Fejiri Okenabirhie, which was completed on Thursday afternoon.

Ramsey is expected to join Darren Moore’s side for the remainder of the season to help them get their play-off push back on track.

Do you know where these former Doncaster Rovers players are now?

The Verdict:

Ramsey is a very talented striker and it is great business by Villa to tie him down to a long-term deal, to ward off any potential suitors.

Having barely featured for the first-team, it is also strong business to see him sent out on-loan to a side where he will surely get guaranteed playing time at Doncaster.

Darren Moore has been crying out for more goals in his strikeforce and the two signings they have made could go some way in helping solve that problem.

If they secure the deal, Ramsey will be a strong part of Moore’s plans for the first-team and gain some much-needed experience in senior football, after shining at under-23s level this term.
