Doncaster Rovers are reportedly interested in taking Aston Villa prospect Jacob Ramsey on loan for the rest of the season, with the Premier League club considering the move.

The League One side are yet to make any signings during the January transfer window but have seen a number of players leave, either due to sales or at the end of their loan deals.

It appears they are looking to strengthen the squad before the end of the month as The Athletic has reported that they're eyeing a move for Ramsey.

The report claims that the Midlands club may be open to letting the 18-year-old join Rovers to allow him to get more first-team experience.

It is understood that Villa boss Dean Smith has high hopes for the attack-minded midfielder due to his impressive performances for the U23s side.

Ramsey made his debut for the senior side last season and has appeared twice in the 2019/20 campaign–coming off the bench in FA Cup and Carabao Cup ties.

The teenager has been a regular performer for the U23s, however, putting in some excellent performances–grabbing six goals and four assists in 12 Premier League 2 appearances.

The Verdict

This looks like it could be a really interesting addition for Doncaster.

Ramsey appears to be very highly rated by Villa and his exploits in Premier League 2 indicate that he has quality.

Rovers are sitting just outside the play-offs and the 18-year-old's arrival could give them just what they need to aid their promotion push.

Additionally, captain and central midfielder Ben Whiteman has been linked with a January exit, so Ramsey could come in to provide cover if that move happens.
