Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce hopes that Jack Grealish will sign a new contract at the club in the next week, according to The Daily Star.

Grealish was disappointed that his £25m move to Tottenham Hotspur fell through, as he would have had the opportunity to compete for silverware and play Champions League football.

But he is considering a new and improved contract offer which would see his wages double to £40k-per-week.

On the 22-year-old's new contract, Bruce said: I wouldn’t be surprised if Jack doesn’t sign a new contract within the next week.

“We’ve got to look after him. From what I gather from the owner, whatever he says he sticks to it."

The Verdict

Keeping Grealish is a real statement of intent by Aston Villa and his creativity in midfield adds a lot going forward.

Over the course of the year, he is going to improve even more as he continues in a starring role in claret and blue in a familiar environment where the fans adore him.

Aston Villa are wise to tie their starlet down to a new deal as that means they will avoid losing him on the cheap in the future, if the big boys do come circling again.
