Callum O’Hare has been dealt a blow, with the Aston Villa youngster looking set to miss the start of the 2018/19 campaign following an injury setback.

The Birmingham Mail have reported that O’Hare has picked up a knee ligament injury, which will keep him on the sidelines for 10 weeks and rule him out of Villa’s pre-season schedule.

The 20-year-old was representing Villa in Hong Kong earlier this month, when an awkward landing left him with a knee injury, which could also potentially rule him out of the start of next season.

O’Hare, an exciting product of Villa’s academy, was used by Steve Bruce sparingly last season, as the first-team went in search of promotion in the Sky Bet Championship.

The academy Player of the Year featured on eight occasions for the first-team, including making four substitute appearances in the Championship.

With no guarantees of first-team football for O’Hare next season, Villa had considered moving the youngster out on-loan this summer, but his injury setback could prevent a move from happening.

The Verdict

This is a disappointing setback for O’Hare, who will know the importance of the 2018/19 campaign.

The 20-year-old now needs to be pushing into senior football on a regular basis, either at Villa Park or elsewhere, as Villa had considered.

A knee ligament injury, which will rule him out of pre-season, is such a disappointment, not just for the current time, but also his prospects of first-team football at Villa Park.

O’Hare is regarded as a huge talent, who Villa’s supporters are desperate to see push on.
