Gabby Agbonlahor has sent an emotional message to Aston Villa supporters as he prepares to depart the club after 13 years as a pro, whilst also admitting he doesn’t know what the future holds.
The 31-year old’s contract is up in the coming weeks and he won’t be offered a new deal by his boyhood team, with his past few season blighted by injury and a lack of form.
However, fans will still remember the local lad fondly for his excellent performances when breaking into the team and his fantastic record of scoring against Birmingham City and in other derby games.
Yet, his time is up now and Birmingham Live reveal how Agbonlahor sent a passionate message to fans through Instagram.
“Gonna be a hard decision this summer as I never thought I would wear another shirt!! Time to enjoy the summer and think of what I do for the rest of my life. Whatever happens my heart will belong to Aston Villa for ever.
“We bleed Claret and blue!! #vtid #utv.”
The former England international has been linked with a move to the MLS.
Villa fans may be sad to see Agbonlahor go as he has given a lot to the club over the years and wearing the shirt clearly meant a lot to him.
Nevertheless, there’s no doubt that it’s the right decision for the club as his impact has been minimal in recent years and they desperately need his wages off the books.
