Aston Villa defender Jacob Bedeau is set to leave the club and join League One side Scunthorpe United, according to Football Insider.
The 19-year-old joined Villa from Bury two years ago in a deal worth an initial £900,000. Since that move he hasn’t been able to force his way into the Villa first team set up and is now out of contract at the end of the year.
That’s reportedly prompted them to consider a bid for the player, rather than letting him walk away for nothing in June. Scunthorpe United are battling against relegation in League One and see him as the perfect player to add to their growing survival campaign.
It is expected he’ll sign a three-year deal with the Iron and be available for their clash with Barnsley this weekend.
Villa fans won’t be expecting to see defenders leave the club, it’s a problem area for them and Dean Smith is widely expected to recruit one before tonight’s 11pm deadline.
Bedeau is one of those players that hasn’t reached his potential, yet. Playing Under 23 football doesn’t give you the experience you need to develop and he may have been best served remaining at Bury and getting game time there.
This move could come at just the right time though, if he gets on the grass at Glanford Park he could be a big player for Stuart McCall’s side.
