Aston Villa defender Ahmed Elmohamady believes they are approaching a vital part of the season as they look to secure promotion back to the Premier League.
The Egyptian international has twice won promotion from the Championship under Steve Bruce and told the Express & Star that the next two months would be pivotal for Villa.
“For me the most important time in the Championship is the two months coming up. It makes a big difference in your season. The most important thing in the Championship is to keep winning. Now we have three in a row, we want to make it four next week.”
After a mixed spell, Bruce’s men have found form during a tough run of fixtures. They head into the home game against Barnsley on the back off three wins in a row which included victories against rivals Bristol City and Middlesbrough.
And, Elmohamady thinks they can now target an automatic promotion spot.
“We are in a great position. We need to look forward to third and then second place. Last month we dropped back. That is not the position we want to be in. We want to be in the top two.”
All of the Aston Villa players should share the confident attitude that Elmohamady has as they now look to be finding their form.
The West Midlands side have struggled at times this season but there are signs they’re beginning to click and have produced their best performances of the campaign in recent games.
Now, as Elmohamady knows, it’s about consistency and ensuring they hit those levels for the remainder of the season.
