Newly-promoted Premier League side Aston Villa have confirmed that James Bree has returned to the Championship, after agreeing a season-long loan deal with Luton Town for the defender.

Bree spent the second half of last season on loan with Ipswich Town, making 14 appearances as they suffered relegation to League One after finishing bottom of the Championship.

The right-back is now set to get another chance in the second tier after making the move to Kenilworth Road, with survival likely to be the target for Luton following their promotion from League One as Champions last season.

Having joined Villa from Barnsley in January 2017, Bree has gone onto make just 28 appearances in all competitions during his two and a half seasons at Villa Park.

There are still two years remaining on Bree's contract with Aston Villa, securing his future at the club until the summer of 2021.

The Verdict

I think this could prove to be a good signing for Luton.

The Hatters are in need of some fresh options in the full-back areas following the departures of Jack Stacey and James Justin to Bournemouth and Leicester respectively earlier this summer.

You feel that Bree could be a decent option to fill that role, with the defender’s experience in the Championship meaning he should be capable of competing at this level with a Luton side whose main aim will be to survive in the second-tier this season.

It seems as though this could be a good move for Bree as well, with the 21-year-old set to enjoy more first-team football than you imagine he would at Villa, giving him the chance to prove himself again at this level following the disappointment of relegation with Ipswich last season.
