Aston Villa are gearing up for a big game this evening as they take on Leeds United at Elland Road under the floodlights.

The men from the Midlands have had a good campaign so far this season with them looking as though they are going to challenge for the promotion spots at the moment.

Indeed, they've got a good squad at the moment that is performing well no matter who is actually on the pitch but Steve Bruce does have some regrets about it.

Indeed, as per the Birmingham Mail, Bruce has said that he wishes Jordan Amavi had not been sold with the left-back one of the most talented players at the club.

Amavi is now at Marseille, of course, after finally seeing his deal go through earlier this season but Bruce, naturally has some regrets about the deal.

He said:

“In the summer we had to get rid of players like Jordan Amavi, for instance.

“In an ideal world we didn’t want Amavi to go but the offer was too good for us and it enabled us to do what we needed to do.

“It’s not easy with FFP."

Of course, the FFP rules made it a bit of a slam-dunk in terms of Bruce having to sell some of his top stars but the money from the Amavi deal has at least been put to good use.

Villa will now be looking to strengthen in January, but there's a suggestion it'll be mainly loan deals.

The Verdict

Villa really needed to keep hold of Amavi if they could as he is a top player but they clearly couldn't with FFP.

The club has done well to get away from some financial issues, though, and that is the main thing for Villa at the moment.
