Aston Villa defender Tommy Elphick has said it would take 'drastic changes' for him to be wanted back at Aston Villa.

In a report in the Birmingham Mail taking quotes from Elphick's interview with the Hull Daily Mail, the former Bournemouth defender described how the writing was pretty much on the wall for him under manager Steve Bruce.

"The manager gave his blessing for me to go out on loan without many centre-halves in the building so that says all you need to know.  I’m not one to cause a fuss or be banging on the manager’s door.

“I try and let my football do the talking. The last two league games I played for Steve, we beat Bristol City 5-1 and he took me out, then we beat Hull 3-1, I scored and he took me out again. The writing was on the wall after that.” added Elphick.

The big defender has joined Hull City on a season long loan deal after seeing his move to Villa Park from Bournemouth turn into something of a disaster.

However, he will be hoping to impress for his new club - and the former club of manager Bruce - and guide the Tigers into the top half after the Yorkshire club endured a poor season last time out.

“I’m as hungry as ever and if there’s going to be a future for me here then I’ve got to do my talking on the pitch. In that sense I’m looking no further forward than the next game. That’s how I’ll treat it this season.”

Villa were hammered last time out by Sheffield United and have failed to re-sign defender John Terry, making Elphick's departure all the more questionable under Bruce.

Villa fans, what do you think? Should you have let Elphick go? Let us know in the comments!
