Scott Hogan will not be leaving Aston Villa today, despite Sheffield United remaining in hot pursuit of the striker.

Chris Wilder has been keen to add Hogan to his squad for the remainder of the season, but it looks like Sheffield United’s pursuit is over, with Villa not willing to sanction a deal.

According to a report from the Birmingham Mail, Hogan will be remaining at Villa Park, with Steve Bruce not willing to let the striker leave at this late stage of the summer transfer window.

Add to that, Hogan is now back in training, with hope that he will return from injury following the international break.

It’s been a frustrating spell for Hogan, who arrived at Villa Park in a multi-million pound transfer back in January 2017.

Since then, Hogan has made 50 league appearances for Villa, but has only managed to score on seven occasions in the Championship.

Lack of form and injuries have limited him to just 28 starts in claret and blue, and when he returns, he will be faced with competition from Jonathan Kodjia, who is back to his best after missing the majority of last season through injuries.

The Verdict

Obviously this is a blow for Sheffield United, who were keen to get Hogan on board.

However, it’s easy to see why Villa want to keep the forward on their books.

Fully fit, Hogan could be lethal in the Championship, with the 26-year-old a very good alternative to Kodjia.

It’s his fitness letting him down, but Bruce will back the striker to find his best when he puts those problems behind him.
