Aston Villa have today confirmed that the Trinity Road Upper will be open against Birmingham City as they expect a sell-out for Dean Smith's first derby.

Even though Villa have had big crowds this season, that part of the ground isn't always open and is the last to go on sale.

However, it was open for Smith's first game in charge, a 1-0 win over Swansea, where over 41,000 turned up.

And, that figure is likely to be exceeded against Blues, if only just, on November 25 in what should be an electric atmosphere even with a midday kick-off.

That's because the club announced on their website that Trinity Road Upper is open and outlined what fans need to do to claim their tickets for the big game.

It will also be a special occasion for Smith, who grew up as a Villa fan and it will surely have been one of the first fixtures he looked for after taking the job.

But, it could be a tough afternoon for the hosts as Garry Monk's Blues are flying, having won four on the bounce and they are currently five points ahead of their rivals.

Although, there are two Championship rounds to be played before the derby.

The Verdict

This is probably expected to be honest because it's a massive fixture for everyone in the city and one that they all look forward too.

Smith will be desperate to get a win on his first derby and it looks as though he will need one given the gap Villa have to the top six.

Ultimately though, the immediate focus will be on the upcoming game against Bolton and then the trip to Derby County.
