Aston Villa are interested in making Mark Taylor their latest appointment to the academy, according to The Telegraph.

Mark Naylor has been a goalkeeping coach at The Hawthorns for a number of years and it is believed he will join the academy set-up at Villa, although the move is yet to be confirmed.

The club had already pinched Mark Harrison from West Brom earlier this summer to be their new Academy manager, so this would be another setback for The Baggies.

He was brought in to replace the outgoing Kevin MacDonald, who was sacked following an investigation into bullying claims made against him by players who worked with him in the 1990s.

Harrison will continue in a similar role to the position he held at The Hawthorns for the last ten years, where he was responsible for overseeing the development of players such as Saido Berahino and, more recently, the likes of Rekeem Harper and Kyle Edwards.

The Verdict

It is a blow for West Brom to lose two key staff members in one summer but it is an example of what they will miss out on by being in the Championship.

It is not too costly, however, as Slaven Bilic has been able to add his own staff upon his arrival and he will take any opportunity to do so again.

It could benefit the club in the long-term as Bilic looks to build something with the club, and given his reputation in the game he is likely to bring in very respected coaches and academy staff.
