Championship promotion hopefuls Aston Villa are plotting a summer move for Liverpool winger Ryan Kent, the Sun has revealed.

22-year-old Kent was in superb form for Rangers last season during a loan spell which saw him flourish under the guidance of Steven Gerrard.

However, with Gerrard keen to bring Kent back north of the border next season, it now appears that Villa are plotting a permanent move for the winger, with Dean Smith lining up a £10m move for the youngster regardless of whether his Villa side are promoted at Wembley or not.

Kent fired in six goals in the Scottish Premier League as Rangers pushed Celtic the closest they have been for years under Gerrard, and he would no doubt be welcomed back to Ibrox with open arms.

Villa's interest and willingness to stump up a big sum for a player who is not going to get his chance at Anfield puts a spanner in the works somewhat for the Gers, who can only offer Kent a loan move back to the Scotland with funds an obvious issue.

Villa take on Derby County tomorrow knowing a win will put them back in the top flight and a £170m jackpot.

The Verdict

It's little surprise to see Kent being linked with moves elsewhere as he was excellent for Rangers in fairness.

He'd be a good fit for Villa too you would think, with their open attacking style fitting his own style of player.

Smith will be keen to make new additions, and Kent would be a solid one at that who can only go on to get better.
