Massimo Luongo has been turning heads recently, four goals in his last six starts for Queens Park Rangers have put him on the radar of promotion hopefuls Aston Villa, according to Australian media outlet the World Game.

The QPR midfielder is set to star in this summer's World Cup for the Socceroos as they face France, Denmark and Peru in the group stages in Russia.

It's an exciting time for the former Spurs midfielder and now there might also be a big transfer coming his way too.

Former Tottenham and QPR scout David Magrone, Luongo's 'mentor' believes he is ready to feature in the Premier League.

"Mass is doing nothing different but the big change is that he's been scoring and that gets you in the headlines," Magrone told the website. "I have no doubt he has the capacity to play in the Premier League, and also in Europe, whether that's in Spain or Italy. When I was at Tottenham (as chief European scout) Tom Carroll, Ryan Mason, Jake Livermore and Nabil Bentaleb all broke through. Mass is just as good, if not better than all of them - and that's when he was at Tottenham. He's an even better player now after 70 odd games in the Championship."

He sealed a move to QPR from Swindon alongside Ben Gladwin in a deal thought to be worth £3.5m but has ramped up the performances in recent weeks. However, he does have two years of his contract left to run, meaning he won't be leaving Loftus Road on the cheap.

Ian Holloway is quoted as saying Luongo was the 'best midfielder in the Championship' at the beginning of the season and, if he's now added goals to his all-round game, a big move is surely only just around the corner.

The Verdict

My only worry for Luongo would be how this move might be perceived by Villa fans.

If they go up, would a QPR midfielder, with one goal to his name up until a few weeks ago, really be the target I'd expect the club to go for? I can see it being a great move if they don't get promoted, but then the question of cost comes into play as those parachute payments decrease.

Mind you, if he's as good as his advisor says he is then he's going to take the world by storm anyway.

After all, why would his personal advisor, the man who discovered him, possibly build him up?
