Steve Bruce is lining up a £3.5m swoop for Bristol City left-back Joe Bryan, according to Birmingham Live.

Bryan is a graduate of the Robins' academy and has been the subject of intense speculation this summer, with Derby County, Newcastle and Wolves all linked with a move for his services.

Villa are the latest team to be mentioned as a possible destination and with Nail Taylor the only recognised left back at the club, Bruce looks likely to move for the 24-year old ahead of Thursday's transfer deadline.

Bryan started the Robins' opening game against Nottingham Forest and although he wasn't on the scoresheet, a powerful drive in the latter stages of their 1-1 draw underlined his threat in attacking positions as well as across the back.

Bryan has been with Bristol City for all of his career currently, making 229 outings across all competitions despite not turning 25 for another two months.

He has spent time out on loan with Bath City and Plymouth Argyle, but established himself in the Robins first team during the 2015/15 season.

The Verdict

The potential transfer fee seems low and Bristol City will be hoping the interest in Bryan manifests itself into a bidding war in order to earn them more financial reward.

They've certainly had their value from the left-sided player, he's been a stalwart for a couple of seasons now and wherever he goes, he looks set for an even brighter future. Expect this one to run right up until Thursday and if he's still at Ashton Gate after that, it will be cause for celebration from Lee Johnson's side.
