Aston Villa have a contingency plan in place if they fail to land Joe Bryan.

According to The Ipswich Star, Aston Villa will move for Ipswich Town's Jonas Knudsen if Bryan does not join.

Aston Villa and Middlesbrough have both agreed £6m fees with Bristol City for Bryan, but the left-back is apparently set to pick the Villans.

However, if this move collapses, Aston Villa do not want the deadline to pass without snapping up a new left-back.

Therefore, they are weighing up a move for Knudsen as well.

The Denmark international recently returned from the World Cup, where he helped his country reach the knockout stages of the tournament and provided an assist against eventual runners-up Croatia, causing havoc with his long throw-in.

The 25-year-old, who is also a target for Middlesbrough and Stoke City, has one year left to run on his contract at Portman Road and Ipswich could cash in.

The Verdict

If the Bryan move falls through, Knudsen would be a decent alternative.

He is still relatively young and he is good going forward, which is exactly what Aston Villa need.

Bryan is the better option but Knudsen would be cheaper and he would also be a competent Championship standard left-back.
