According to the Birmingham Mail, Aston Villa are waiting for AS Monaco to make their next move, after expressing an interest in Jordan Amavi.

Steve Bruce is prepared to sell Amavi this summer, as Villa fight against a potential Financial Fair Play punishment, but the defender will only leave if the club’s valuation is matched.

The 23-year-old came close to leaving earlier this summer, but Sevilla pulled out of a potential £8m deal, claiming the player failed a medical.

Monaco are the latest team to show an interest in taking Amavi away from Villa Park, with recent reports in the Birmingham Mail suggesting they had been in touch with the player’s representatives.

However, Villa are waiting for Monaco to make their next move and are yet to hear directly from the French champions.

Neil Taylor is likely to be Bruce’s first-choice left-back heading into the new season, leaving Amavi’s opportunities looking limited at Villa Park heading into the new season.

The Frenchman has made just 48 appearances across all competitions for Villa since his arrival in 2015, struggling to find consistency due to a string of injuries.

Last season in the Sky Bet Championship, Amavi made 34 appearances, but lost his place at left-back to Taylor, following the Welshman’s arrival during the January transfer window.

During the second-half of the season, Amavi was used as a makeshift winger.

The Verdict

Despite some impressive performances in pre-season for Villa, and earning the respect of the club’s supporters, Amavi still looks to be heading for the Villa Park exit door.

The defender’s likely destination is back into Europe, and with a lucrative move to Monaco suggested, it is hard to begrudge the player himself.

Amavi’s time in England has been difficult, but his attitude over pre-season, particularly after his move to Sevilla fell through, will mean he can leave Villa with his head held high.
