Aston Villa have launched an enormous bid for Hull City’s Abel Hernandez which could – if accepted – break the Championship transfer record, according to The Sun.
After Aston Villa’s charismatic owner Tony Xia expressed that Aston Villa was in the market for a ‘world class number 9’, it quickly became established that Aston Villa was interested in Hull City’s Abel Hernandez.
The 26-year-old Uruguayan played a pivotal role in Hull City’s promotion from the Championship after scoring 20 times with only Ross McCormack and Andre Gray scoring more than him. Xia may be hoping he can replicate that form for Aston Villa and help Villa secure promotion from the Championship.
It has been reported that Aston Villa has placed a staggering £14 million bid up front for Hernandez which also includes £6 million worth of add-ons based on how Aston Villa fares this season, as well as add-ons for how many goals and appearances Hernandez makes.
If the bid is accepted by Hull City, it would break the Championship transfer record and prove to be a real statement of intent from Aston Villa as they look to return to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
Aston Villa fans, how do you feel about the news? Would you like to see Abel Hernandez join your club? Do you think he can replicate his form from last season?
