According to the Birmingham Mail, Steve Bruce is keeping tabs on Nahki Wells and Leonardo Ulloa heading into the January transfer window, as he looks to bolster Aston Villa’s attacking options in early 2018.

Another serious injury to Jonathan Kodjia has dealt Villa a huge blow heading into the New Year, and Bruce is keen to bolster his attacking options ahead of the second-half of the Sky Bet Championship season.

Keinan Davis, Villa’s 19-year-old striker, has had a lot of faith placed in him this season, and Bruce is looking to add a like-for-like competition to his squad in January, with Ulloa reportedly on his radar, along with Burnley’s Wells.

Ulloa has so far struggled for opportunities with Leicester City this season, with the 31-year-old finding himself behind a number of other strikers at the King Power Stadium.

The striker has previous experience in the Championship with Brighton and Hove Albion, who he scored 23 goals for in 50 appearances between 2013 and 2014.

Wells is another experienced Championship striker on Villa’s radar, with the 27-year-old currently struggling for opportunities at Burnley, who he joined in the summer having helped Huddersfield Town to promotion last season.

The Verdict

Villa are in desperate need of striking reinforcements in January, and Villa’s supporters will be encouraged by the calibre of player Bruce is looking at – particularly Ulloa.

Ulloa would be an impressive addition in January, and although Villa are reportedly only looking to secure loan deals, his arrival could give everyone at the club a huge boost.

Likewise with Wells, the 27-year-old had his most prolific season in the Championship last year and would be another welcome addition at Villa Park.
