Brighton and Sheffield United have joined Aston Villa in the race to sign West Brom winger, Matt Phillips according to Football Insider.

It had previously been reported by Football Insider, that Aston Villa had registered their interest in signing Phillips, who was impressive for West Brom last season.

In 30 league appearances for the Baggies, he scored five goals and was on hand to provide seven assists for his West Brom team-mates in a season that struggled to progress due to the injuries picked up by Phillips.

He's entering the final year of his contract, which has heightened interest in his services, as West Brom could be tempted to cash in on him, instead of losing him for nothing at the end of next year's campaign.

Sheffield United will be keen to add some much-needed strength in depth to their attacking options, and Phillips would certainly provide them with that.

It remains to be seen as to whether any official offers have been made to land his signature, but the interested clubs can't afford to waste any time as the transfer window closes on August 8th.

West Brom get their new league campaign underway with a potentially tricky trip to the City Ground to take on Nottingham Forest.

The Verdict:

It's looking increasingly likely that he's destined for a move away from West Brom.

I think he's too good to be playing in the Championship for another season, and if I was Phillips, then I would be voicing my intentions to leave the Baggies before the transfer window closes.

He scored five goals and was on hand to provide seven assists in an injury-hit league campaign last season, so if he can stay fully fit, then he'll be an excellent addition to any of the teams interested in signing him.
