Aston Villa join the race to sign experienced Championship forward

According to the Independent Ipswich Town (TWTD), Aston Villa have joined a host of Sky Bet Championship clubs in the race to sign David McGoldrick from Portman Road.
Cardiff City and Birmingham City have been linked with a move for the forward already this window, but Villa are keen according to TWTD, with Steve Bruce desperate to add a striker to his squad this month.
Jonathan Kodjia’s season-ending injury has left Villa short of bodies in attack, with reliance during the first-half of the season on youngster, Keinan Davis.
Scott Hogan has come into some form in recent weeks for Villa, but Bruce remains keen to add another option in attack, as Villa go in search of promotion back to the Premier League.
With a move for Leonardo Ulloa looking increasingly unlikely, Villa appear to have turned their attention to McGoldrick, who has played a key role at Portman Road for Mick McCarthy this season.
McGoldrick has featured in 20 Championship fixtures for Ipswich so far this season, with the 30-year-old scoring six goals and assisting a further five for McCarthy’s side.
The Irishman’s form has helped to lead Ipswich to 12th, where they sit six points adrift of the play-off places.
The Verdict
Bruce’s striker search has gone on longer than he expected, and with just days of the transfer window remaining, the Villa boss is getting desperate.
McGoldrick has proved over the years that he is a more than capable of delivering in the Championship, and Villa could do a lot worse than adding him to their squad this season.
However, Ipswich will not want to lose such a key player, which could make a deal difficult.
