Aston Villa are the latest club to enter the race for John McGinn, according to The Daily Record.

Hibernian midfielder McGinn is attracting plenty of interest this summer and he has been linked with a number of clubs in Scotland and England.

Hibs rate McGinn at £5m amid interest from the likes of Bournemouth, Brighton, Sunderland, Celtic and Rangers.

Aston Villa are the latest side to be mentioned in pursuit of McGinn, but they face a struggle to capture him due to financial restrictions caused by not winning promotion to the Premier League.

However, the Villains may sell Jack Grealish to raise funds for transfers this summer and McGinn would be on their list.

The Scotland international has been impressive for Hibernian, helping them to 4th place in the Scottish Premiership last season.

The 23-year-old plays predominantly as a central midfielder and West Ham United have also entered the race for him, according to this report.

As Aston Villa prepare for another season in the second tier, they are hoping to find a bargain in McGinn but Hibs are likely to hold out for their £5m price tag.

The Verdict

I cannot see this one happening.

Even if Aston Villa receive money for Grealish, they need to reinvest that wisely and McGinn would be a risky purchase.

At 23, he could still develop into one of the best players in the Championship and even become a Premier League player but can Villa afford this gamble in their current circumstances?
