Sky Bet Championship sides Middlesbrough and Aston Villa are interested in signing Brentford forward Neal Maupay, according to reports from the Mirror.

The Frenchman has been a resounding success at Brentford ever since his £1.6million move from Saint-Etienne in 2017, where current Villa boss Dean Smith brought him to Griffin Park.

The 22-year old has been in exceptional form for the Bees this season, scoring 26 goals and producing eight assists for the West London side, with Thomas Frank's men languishing in the bottom half of the table.

Reports have surfaced claiming that as well as Middlesbrough and Villa, newly-relegated Huddersfield Town are interested in signing the prolific forward, as they prepare for life in the Championship next term.

The 22-year old would be a very welcomed addition at Villa Park if they are unable to sign Tammy Abraham on a permanent deal beyond this season, with the Chelsea loanee netting 24 goals this term.

Tony Pulis' hopes of a top six finish are in huge doubt after a dismal run of form of late - the North East club have been shy in front of goal this season, scoring just 44 goals in 42 league games this term.

The Verdict

Maupay would be a ridiculously good signing for both sides, and is likely to cost a lot of money in the summer.

Villa definitely need to be thinking about Tammy Abraham replacements if he moves on to pastures new next season, and Maupay would be a great addition as he is someone that Dean Smith knows well.

Boro also need some threat up top, although they already have a prolific goalscorer up top in Britt Assombalonga, and even he has struggled to make an impact in Pulis' side this term.
