Aston Villa are discussing a deal to bring Orjan Nyland to the club, according to reports.

The Sun reports that goalkeeper Nyland is talking to Aston Villa about signing for them from Ingolstadt.

The 27-year-old currently plays in the second tier of German football with Ingolstadt but could move to the Championship as Aston Villa look to get this deal over the line.

The Villans completed their first signing of the summer transfer window last week, bringing in Atletico Madrid stopper Andre Moreira on a season-long loan.

Moreira is now likely to compete with Nyland for the goalkeeper spot, with Jed Steer, Mark Bunn and youngster Matija Sarkic also keen for game time.

Nyland has played 48 times in three seasons for Ingolstadt after joining the club from Molde.

The 27-cap Norway international, who stands at 6ft 3in tall, was also being tracked by Aston Villa's Second City rivals Birmingham City this summer.

But Steve Bruce's side have opened talks in the hope that they can win the race for Nyland.

The Verdict

I am not sure why Aston Villa need so many goalkeepers on their books.

Steer and Moreira were expected to be battling for the starting spot, while Bunn is an adequate third choice.

Whoever takes the goalkeeper jersey, they have a big void to fill now that Sam Johnstone is not in goal for Villa.
