Aston Villa are facing competition from Brentford in the race to sign Southend United forward Charlie Kelman, according to Football Insider.

The 16-year-old forward scored a stunning 61 goals last season for Southend United's age-group teams, and he has continued that fine form this season having already scored eight goals thus far this campaign.

His form in front of goal led him to being called up to the USA under-18 men’s national team in the summer, and he also got on the scoresheet for Southend’s under-23s side earlier this month on what was his debut.

The Shrimpers are yet to tie the youngster down to a professional contract with the striker only turning 17 next month, and the Championship duo as well as Premier League clubs are reportedly ready to pounce.

Smith will be looking to beat his former club to the signature of Kelman - the Villans sit 17th in the Championship after fifteen league games.

The Verdict

Kelman looks to be a real prospect - to score 61 goals at any level is impressive so he clearly he has something about him.

Looking at his stats, he looks like he will be a fantastic player in the future and could be of use to the reported clubs.
