According to the Daily Mail, Aston Villa are hoping to recoup a large part of the £9m they spent on Jordan Amavi, should the defender leaves Villa Park for Sampdoria later this summer.

It is understood that Villa are willing to let the defender leave this summer, and are hopeful that the transfer-fee paid by Sampdoria, his likely destination, will cover what they paid for Amavi back in 2015, which was a reported £9m.

Amavi arrived at Villa Park from Nice ahead of the 2015/16 campaign, and made 12 appearances in the Premier League during his first season with Villa, as the club suffered relegation to the Sky Bet Championship.

The 23-year old was included far more during his second season with Villa, featuring in 34 of 46 Championship fixtures.

However, the left-back failed to impress again at Villa Park, and Steve Bruce opted to sign Neil Taylor during the January transfer window, who replaced Amavi in Villa’s back-four.

Most of Amavi’s opportunities during the second-half of the season came in midfield, but Bruce sees the Frenchman surplus to requirements and a way of raising funds during the transfer window.

Bruce is looking for a handful of additions over the summer, as he shapes a squad that is capable of bettering Villa’s 13th placed finish in the Championship last season.
