Championship side Aston Villa have been installed as the heavy favourites to land West Ham winger Robert Snodgrass, as per Sky Bet.

The 29-year-old only moved to the London Stadium back in January after impressing for Hull City in the first half of the 2016/17 campaign, bagging seven goals and laying on three assists in just 20 games for the Tigers, thus earning him a big money move to East London.

Yet things just haven’t worked out for the Scotland international at West Ham, with Snodgrass having failed to net in 15 games for Slaven Bilic’s side, in which time he has also only managed two assists.

And his future at the club appears in doubt given his poor return in the second half of last season, and it’s uncertainty that has linked several sides with the wing wizard, not least Aston Villa, who have recently been installed as the 4/9 favourites to sign the Scotsman this summer.

Steve Bruce has overseen quite the overhaul at Villa Park this summer, with the likes of John Terry and Glenn Whelan coming in while players like Jordan Veretout and Jordan Amavi have left, as the former Birmingham chief plots a return to the Premier League for the Midlands giants.

However, they have got off to a miserable start with just one point from their first two games, the latest of which a 3-0 thumping away at Cardiff City.

Thus, Bruce may feel that further reinforcements are required to sustain a promotion push, and bringing someone in with genuine quality like Snodgrass would certainly aid with that.

But whether the heavy favourites indeed make a move for the 29-year-old remains to be seen.

The Verdict: Robert Snodgrass doesn’t just become a bad player overnight - it was only nine months ago that he was single-handedly keeping Hull City in with a chance of Premier League safety.

Yet it hasn’t worked for him at West Ham, and his exclusion from the matchday squad for their first league game against Manchester United on Sunday plunges his future into even greater doubt.

And it’s doubt that many feel Villa will look to take advantage of, with Steve Bruce’s side the overwhelming favourites to land the 29-year-old this summer according to the bookmakers.

And what a signing it could turn out to be given his credentials at this level alongside Villa’s need for greater creative flair in the final third.
