Aston Villa striker Keinan Davis is back in training as he nears a return to first-team action, according to reports from the Birmingham Mail.

The 21-year-old has endured a turbulent time with injuries over the last year, and has been limited to just one single appearance this season which came against Swansea City in the FA Cup.

The powerful forward has been recovering from a pelvic injury which has seen him endure a lengthy spell on the sidelines - the same injury that also caused him to miss a considerable amount of games towards the latter stage of last season.

The youngster burst onto the scene under Steve Bruce a couple of seasons back, and was a regular for the current Sheffield Wednesday boss last season, making 30 appearances for the club in all competitions.

But news has now emerged that the striker is back in first-team training this week, a boost for Dean Smith as he looks to prepare his side for the Second City derby clash against Birmingham City on Sunday.

Villa currently sit six points off the Sky Bet Championship play-off places, after a 4-0 win over Derby County last weekend.

The Verdict

This is definitely a boost for Villa as they prepare for a massive game against their arch rivals this weekend.

Davis isn't likely to challenge Tammy Abraham for the striker's position right now by any means, but he can provide real competition and depth for the prolific forward up top.

Villa are having plenty of players return from injury at just the right time, with Dean Smith's men still well in the hunt for a top six finish come the end of the season.
