Aston Villa given key boost ahead of clash with Blackburn Rovers

Aston Villa are boosted by the return of Jack Grealish for this weekend’s clash with Blackburn Rovers, The Birmingham Mail reports.

Highly-rated youngster Grealish managed just 39 minutes for the U23 side on Monday night before being forced off with a stomach bug, but he has returned to training and is a candidate to replace the suspended Jordan Ayew in the Villa line-up.

Grealish, who recently served a ban of his own, is looking to consolidate his position in the squad under new boss Steve Bruce having been criticised for his off field behaviour in the past year.

The absence of Jordan Ayew could give Grealish his chance to make a mark and Steve Bruce will also have to shake things up in other areas, as Leandro Bacuna has been ruled-out with a groin injury whilst Micah Richards is rated as a doubt.

Tommy Elphick could also return for Villa, having shaken off his own injury problem, but he’s likely to take a spot on the bench.

Villa are undefeated in their four matches under new boss Steve Bruce and face a big month ahead as they look to climb up the Championship table, with winnable games against Blackburn Rovers and Cardiff City either side of a huge test against Brighton.
