Aston Villa booked their place in the Championship play-off final later this month with a dramatic penalty shootout win over West Brom at The Hawthorns.

Craig Dawson's header in the first-half saw the Baggies lead in this one, with Chris Brunt seeing red late into the conclusion of the 90 minutes.

Villa were unable to capitalise on their man advantage though, but Jed Steer performed heroics in the shootout to seal Villa's place in the play-off final at Wembley.

Aston Villa defender, Tyrone Mings took to Twitter following the dramatic win, and his comments will certainly put a smile on supporters' faces today.

Mings has been key to the recent success of this Aston Villa team, and it will come as no surprise to hear that their turnaround of form has come around the same time he arrived at the club.

He's on loan from Premier League side, AFC Bournemouth and it's certainly going to be an interesting summer ahead for Mings if he wins promotion with Villa this month.

Mings has established himself as a firm fans favourite amongst Villa supporters, and they'll be desperate for him to extend his stay at the club beyond the end of this season.

That could all be dependent on whether Dean Smith's side win promotion back into the Premier League though, with Mings being more than good enough to be playing at a higher level than the Championship at this stage of his career.

The Verdict:

What a player he has been for Villa this season.

Mings has been hugely impressive throughout his time with the Villans, and he'll be hoping to put the icing on the cake with promotion back into the Premier League later this month.

Without him, I just couldn't see Villa being strong enough at the back to even be challenging for a top six finish, let alone one game away from promotion back into the Premier League.
