Former Aston Villa striker, Gabriel Agbonlahor announced his retirement from football on Wednesday, with plenty of Aston Villa fans wishing their former player well in his future endeavours.

The striker had many successful years with the club and he established himself as one of the legends to step foot on the Villa Park turf.

Former Aston Villa team-mate, and now Manchester United defender, Ashley Young took to Twitter to praise Agbonlahor for a successful career.

Agbonlahor spent 13 years with the Villans and scored 86 goals in 391 appearances, in a hugely successful period with the club.

He was a regular for Villa when they were in the Premier League and scored some crucial goals that kept them in the top-flight, before they were eventually relegated in the 2015/2016 season.

Whereas Young spent five years with Aston Villa, before making the move to Old Trafford where he has since established himself as a regular in the Manchester United squad.

Agbonlahor was a one-club man, and became a firm fans favourite at Villa Park in his time with the Villans.

The 32-year-old will be hoping that his former side can win promotion back into the Premier League, with Dean Smith's side currently occupying a play-off place.

The Verdict:

Agbonlahor is up there as an Aston Villa legend.

He was one of the most feared strikers to come up against, and it's clear to see why.

His career speaks for itself, and it's good to see some players showing loyalty like he has in his time with the club.
