Aston Villa came close to losing Albert Adomah towards the end of the transfer window, but the winger’s late move to Middlesbrough eventually fell through.

Adomah has been in and out of Villa’s side so far this season, and with Anwar El-Ghazi and Yannick Bolasie signed over the course of August, the 30-year-old is down the Villa Park pecking order.

According to the Birmingham Mail, Villa offered Adomah to two of their Championship rivals, with Leeds United and Middlesbrough both offered the opportunity to take the popular winger on board.

Although a transfer never developed, Villa’s supporters should be disappointed and concerned by their club’s transfer approach.

Firstly, Adomah is hugely popular at Villa Park, so learning that the club deemed him surplus to requirements will certainly not sit well with some supporters.

Add to that, it’s a concern when you consider the clubs Villa were offering Adomah to.

Leeds and Middlesbrough have enjoyed fantastic starts to the season and they look like they will be well in the hunt for promotion this season.

Villa also hope to be in promotion contention, so moving Adomah on to one of the two clubs would have certainly strengthened the opposition and could have proved to be a bizarre decision.

Adomah scored 14 goals in the Championship last season, and whilst El-Ghazi and Bolasie are good signings, there is still an argument to say that Adomah is Villa’s best winger.

Of course, Adomah’s move never materialised, and in time, he could well work his way back into the picture at Villa Park and have a huge impact, just as he did last season.

However, the club looking to move Adomah on should certainly concern the Villa faithful.

Steve Bruce is a man under pressure and this treatment of Adomah will not help his case.
