Aston Villa had the highest average attendance for a Championship side based on figures released by the EFL.

They averaged an attendance of 32,097 across the entire season with only eight clubs averaging over 25,000.

Villa's home form has been key for them this season because they picked up 49 points, which was an average of over 2 per game with only promoted sides Wolves and Cardiff topping that.

Having an intimidating atmosphere is conducive to success because it provides the home team with an advantage due to the encouragement it provides. It may be seen as an old cliché, but its impact can be still traced in modern football with very few teams performing better away.

The Verdict

This is a significant reflection of their status as one of the top clubs in the Championship as well as why they deserve to be in the Premier League because they are clearly well supported.

Unfortunately for Villa, the Play-Off Final is at a neutral venue in Wembley, so the supporters are limited in the atmosphere they can create, although they did sell out their allocation of 38,000 tickets for the match. The fans have certainly played a significant part this season, so it's just down to the players to overcome one more obstacle between them and Premier League football.
