Aston Villa hope to sign Lewis Grabban permanently this summer, should they achieve promotion back to the Premier League.

Grabban has been influential since arriving at Villa Park on-loan from AFC Bournemouth in January, bagging eight goals in 16 appearances to help Steve Bruce’s side into real promotion contention.

According to the Birmingham Mail, Villa will look to make Grabban’s move permanent in the summer, should they secure a Premier League return over the course of this month.

Bournemouth are looking to recoup £5m for the 30-year-old, who has managed 20 goals in the Championship this season.

Prior to his move to Villa Park, Grabban had been on fire for Sunderland across the Championship, scoring 12 goals for the now-relegated Black Cats.

Since arriving in the Midlands, Grabban has spearheaded Villa’s promotion push, turning into Bruce’s focal point.

Villa are currently leading Middlesbrough 1-0 in their play-off semi-final, after Mile Jedinak’s header on Saturday handed Bruce’s side control of the tie.

The decisive second-leg takes place at Villa Park tomorrow evening.

The Verdict

Grabban has been excellent since moving to Villa Park, with the striker’s role in Villa’s play-off push a crucial one.

Financial Fair Play is likely to scupper a permanent move if Villa remain a Championship outfit, but if promotion is achieved, the 30-year-old’s permanent arrival looks a real possibility.

At £5m, Grabban looks good value, should he be able to continue this form.
