Sky Bet Championship side Aston Villa are considering recalling winger Andre Green from his loan spell at Portsmouth, according to reports from The Sun.

The 20-year-old has enjoyed an impressive loan spell at Fratton Park this season and has scored five goals in his last nine games for Kenny Jackett's men - including a last-gasp winner against Norwich City in the third round of the FA Cup.

But Villa boss Dean Smith is reportedly exploring options to recall the winger from his season-long loan spell with the League One table-toppers - the former Brentford boss believes that his Villa side could benefit from the wide-man's pace and ever-improving end-product on the flanks.

England under-20 international Green has made just thirteen starts for Villa since emerging from the youth setup at Villa Park, and was sent out on loan to Pompey during Steve Bruce's tenure at Villa, after becoming surplus to requirements under the now-Sheffield Wednesday boss.

Villa currently sit 10th in the Sky Bet Championship table, five points off the play-off places after just one win in their previous six league outings. Dean Smith's men travel to Wigan Athletic this weekend.

The Verdict

After an impressive loan spell at Portsmouth, Green could be of real use to Villa if Smith strongly believes it.

They have a plethora of talented attacking players in their ranks, who are all flourishing under the former Brentford boss, and he could be another exciting option for the Villans to have.

I still think that their defence needs strengthening, however.
