According to reliable journalist Alan Nixon, Aston Villa have held talks with Barnsley over a possible deal for defender James Bree and the move is “getting closer”.

James Bree is reportedly being chased by six big Premier League clubs so it would be a shrewd piece of business for Aston Villa to swoop for him ahead of them.

The Mirror recently revealed that Bree was subject to interest from Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham, West Ham, Arsenal and Southampton.

However, Aston Villa appear to be in pole position to land the highly rated teenager, according to Alan Nixon’s Twitter.

The 19-year-old has already played over 50 games for the Tykes in all competitions despite his young age and has impressed with his performances this season.

Bree is most naturally a right back, although he can fill in at left back too and has also played in midfield previously.

Aston Villa fans Рis this a statement of intent if you can beat 6 Premier League clubs to his signature? What can he offer?

Barnsley fans – can you keep Bree in January? How much is he worth?
