Aston Villa have reportedly agreed a deal to sign West Brom youngster Tim Iroegbunam ahead of the 2021/22 season, according to Football Insider.
The report claims that there will be a six-figure fee agreed as part of the compensation deal for the Baggies, and they’ll be slightly frustrated to lose a player of Iroegbunam’s quality.
The youngster won the Academy Player of the Season award last term, and it appears as though his strong showings haven’t gone unnoticed.
Iroegbunam made 40 appearances for West Brom at Under-23s level, and even featured in the matchday squad for the West Brom senior squad on the final day of the 2020/21 season, although he was an unused substitute against Leeds United.
West Brom were relegated back into the Championship after a brief spell in the Premier League, and will be hoping they can win promotion into the top flight this season under the management of newly-appointed boss Valerien Ismael.
Football Insider report that Iroegbunam will make the short move to Villa Park this summer though, and won’t play his part for West Brom, with the 18-year-old turning down a new contract with the Baggies.
West Brom are set to take on AFC Bournemouth in their season opener, in what is likely to be a tricky test up against Scott Parker’s side on Saturday 7th August at the Hawthorns.
How well do you know these celebrity West Brom supporters?
This could turn out to be a smart move by Aston Villa in the long-term.
Iroegbunam has impressed at Under-23s level with West Brom, and that clearly hasn’t gone unnoticed, with Villa making their move to land his signature this summer.
West Brom have had their fair share of players that have caught the eye in the club’s academy system, and Iroegbunam is the next one to be heading for the exit door it seems.
It’ll be slightly frustrating for the West Brom supporters to not see them feature in the senior squad on a regular basis though, as he could have had a role to play in their promotion bid this term in the Championship.
