According to the Express and Star, Aston Villa defender Kevin Toner is keen to extend his loan spell at Walsall until the end of the season.

With his loan deal due to expire in January, Toner is reportedly eager to ensure that he remains with the League One club until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old was handed his Aston Villa first team bow last season as a substitute against Southampton in the Premier League and made his first start the following week.

He made four Premier League appearances for already relegated Villa and joined Walsall in the summer.

The Republic of Ireland youth international has been an ever present with the Saddlers this season and has impressed with solid and mature defensive displays.

The centre half has confirmed his desire to stay in League One if possible and admits that it is much better than playing in under-21 football.

Walsall fans – what do you think? Is this positive news?

Aston Villa fans – would you let Toner stay out for the season?
