Aston Villa dealt frustrating injury blow ahead of Millwall clash

Published

on

Aston Villa are set to be without Neil Taylor this weekend against Millwall, with the left-back struggling with a hamstring injury.

Taylor was forced from the field in last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Derby County, with the defender replaced by Alan Hutton in the 23rd minute.

@AVFCOfficial have now confirmed that Taylor is set to sit out this weekend’s clash with Millwall at The Den, with the Welshman struggling with a hamstring problem.

The 29-year-old has been in and out of Bruce’s side over the course of the season, with Taylor struggling to nail down a starting berth on the left side of defence.

Taylor has featured on 29 occasions this season, but it has been Hutton who has featured in Villa’s best runs.

Steve Bruce’s side head to London knowing they will finish the season fourth, with play-off football already guaranteed at Villa Park.

Villa will take on Millwall on the back of a four-match unbeaten run, which has helped them guarantee their place in the play-offs.

Following this weekend’s clash with Millwall, Villa’s attention will turn to the play-offs, with it looking likely that Bruce’s side will take on Middlesbrough in the semi-finals.

The Verdict

Taylor going off last week actually improved Villa, with Hutton’s performance from the bench extremely encouraging.

However, ahead of the play-offs, Bruce will want a fully fit squad, including Taylor, which makes the defender’s absence a blow.

Although this weekend’s clash with Millwall comes first, Bruce will already have his eye on a likely semi-final clash with Middlesbrough.
