Aston Villa haven't given up their interest in Adam Webster despite being on the periphery of spending over £20million on a centre half.

According to The Guardian, Aston Villa are looking to wrap up a deal which could cost as much as £26.5million for Tyrone Mings, but that hasn't ceased their interest in Bristol City's star player.

Despite Villa now spending good money this transfer window on Wesley Moraes, Anwar El Ghazi, Matt Targett, Kortney Hause and Jota, the report says that "Villa remain keen on defender Adam Webster."

Webster was one of the standout players in Bristol City's successful season last year, playing 44 games in the league and scoring three times, as the Robins narrowly fell short of the top six.

Signing Webster could prove tough for the Premier League club, as Bristol City are unlikely to let him go on the cheap and, according to Bristol Live, have set a whopping £30m price tag on the defender.

While realistically it may take less than £30million to buy him, it will still be a large outlay which could be more towards £20million, which would mean Villa would be paying upwards of £40million for two centre backs who played in the Championship last year.

Webster joined the club from Ipswich last summer and has three years remaining on his deal at Ashton Gate.

The Verdict

A combination of Webster and Mings sounds good, even at Premier League level.

Both have incredible physical attributes, so should be able to cope with the step up to the Premier League, however, they would be an inexperienced pair at that level.

Unless Webster really tries to force a move, I don't see them paying £30million for him, especially considering the cash they've already paid.

However, if Webster wants to go to the Premier League now, it will be hard for City to stay out of his way and not lower their asking price.
